Mountain Ash
Because of its affinity for high altitudes, Sorbus aucuparia is often called Mountain Ash. Growing exceptionally well in areas of high elevation, Mountain Ash is found around the world. With its large clusters of bright fruit, these plants are often a splash of color in an otherwise dull landscape. There are five subspecies all recognized as Mountain Ash under the Sorbus aucuparia designation:
- Sorbus aucuparia subsp. sibirica
- Sorbus aucuparia subsp. aucuparia
- Sorbus aucuparia subsp. glabrata
- Sorbus aucuparia subsp. praemorsa
- Sorbus aucuparia subsp. fenenkiana
Mountain Ash is used by many cultures as decoration. However, its fruit can also be used to make jams and jellies. Further, Mountain Ash is a potent adaptogenic herb. At Vitarich Laboratories, this herb is one of the ten used in our proprietary blend for our exclusive adaptogen products. Just as this plant can retain a state of homeostasis in its demanding and harsh environment, so it is said to help the body withstand the rigors of a stressful life.
